Longleat

We recently went on holiday and on the first day we went to Longleat Safari Park.

Longleat was opened in 1966. It was the first location outside of Africa to open a safari park.

I enjoyed watching the funny monkeys as they climbed on peoples cars and broke their aerials.

Sometimes the bats were all in one corner of the cave because it was too hot but when it was cooler they were flying about everywhere.

When we were on the boat we saw Sea-lions and Hippos.

Animal facts
  • Bongos are the largest and the most colourful of the African antelopes with white stripes
  • A baby wallaby is known as a joey
  • A Giraffes neck has the same amount of bones in as ours
  •  Egyptian fruit bats eat fruit, flowers and pollen

We also went in Longleat House which was built in 1580. The Great Hall is the only room which still has lots of the original features from when it was built such as the original fireplace.

My favourite room was the nursery. I liked the doll house that were on show.

Lots of the rooms had decoration and painting on the ceilings.

We were not allowed to take any pictures in the house.
